Update on Tropical Storm Gordon

The National Hurricane Center is predicting that Tropical Storm Gordon will develop into a weak hurricane and make landfall on the Gulf Coast. The storm is expected to bring life-threatening storm surge to the area. All coastal counties in south Mississippi are under a Hurricane warning - please monitor state and local advisories. Although the storm in its entirety is weak, it still poses threats such as heavy rainfall, storm surge, rip currents, and stronger wind gusts.

If you haven't begun preparing for the storm, you should begin doing so immediately. Make sure your car has a full tank of gas in the event an evacuation of the area is ordered. Know the appropriate emergency contacts. Stock up on water, non-perishable food, and additional supplies - enough to last three days. Become familiar with evacuation routes and shelter locations. Bring in all outdoor furniture. Make sure you shut down your utilities and propane tanks, fill a tub with water, unplug all electronics and listen closely to local and state emergency officials

For updates on the storm please monitor local news outlets and updates from MSEMA. I will also be actively updating my Twitter with new information relevant to preparation and safety measures. If an evacuation is ordered you can follow this link to learn your evacuation route. Do not hesitate to leave your home, you life and the safety of your family is most important.

Be prepared. Be safe.
