If you watch the mainstream media’s review of President Trump’s first 100 days in office, you would think that he has accomplished nothing and his administration is in complete disarray. In fact, it has been a successful first quarter for our president and the conservative agenda at-large. He has made waves indeed among the liberal activists with his swift and direct orders to carry out promises he made to the American people. Below I’ve highlighted what the liberal mainstream media refuses to acknowledge, the promises that have been kept, the victories that have been won and the plans in place to ensure the future success of President Trump's conservative agenda for our country.
Supreme Court Nominee
The nomination of a new Supreme Court Justice to replace Judge Scalia was a crucial point of contention in the 2016 presidential election. President Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch, known for his conservative outlook, and was successful in ensuring Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation as a United States Supreme Court Justice. This victory alone will ensure conservative court decisions for years to come.
Obamacare has wreaked havoc on our nation and has continuously proven to be bad for families, bad for business, and bad for the American people overall. President Trump promised to aid Congress in our persistent efforts to repeal and replace this disastrous law. In March we introduced the American Healthcare Act, the Republican-led bill that repeals Obamacare and replaces it with common-sense, patient-centered reforms. President Trump was in full support of this bill. Unlike the way Obamacare was handled, we made sure that everyone had a role in shaping this bill. Over the last month changes have been made to strengthen this replacement bill that is soon to be voted on and become the law of the land. We will not rest until Obamacare is repealed.
President Trump has focused a lot of his efforts in the first 100 days on removing the government from the daily lives of citizens as much as possible by slashing unnecessary and burdensome regulations. He has worked with the Congress to enact 28 new laws and sign 13 Congressional Review Act resolutions that cut red tape and block any future reissuing of these regulations already deemed unnecessary. He has also issued an order requiring that for every regulation issued, two must be eliminated and called for the dismantling of Obama's climate change policies that are crippling American businesses and industries across the nation.
By comparison, at this point in President Obama's last term only 7 bills had become law.
Immigration policy has been an ongoing debate in our country for many years. President Obama placated the liberal immigration agenda with policies such as the DREAM Act, protecting sanctuary cities that don’t enforce immigration law and refusing to secure our borders. Liberals hang on their talking point that this country was originally made of immigrants, while disavowing the realities of the world we live in today and the fact that the inability to account for individuals entering our country threatens the safety and security of our people, as well as our system of government. As far back as the 1700’s our government recognized the need for an orderly system of documenting immigrants and granting citizenship. We established an entire federal agency to help individuals who wish to enter our country do so. While like most government agencies, there is much insufficiency within the agency, the fact of the matter is our first responsibility remains the safety and security of our country and our people. Border security is national security. The sooner we can secure our borders from those who are entering this country illegally, the sooner we can allocate more resources toward helping those who wish to enter our country legally.
President Trump promised to help secure our borders and remove illegal immigrants. He took action immediately in January with an executive order to block federal funding to cities that do not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. I’ve cosponsored a bill to do just this in the 114th and 115th Congress and support President Trump in his effort to enforce the laws on the books.
He also promised to build a wall along our southern border to block individuals from entering our country illegally. We are continuing to work with him on ensuring this promise and building the wall he promised the American people.
Strengthen our U.S. Military
Under the Obama Administration, our men and women in uniform underwent devastating cuts . This is a slap in the face given the job they do each day, risking their lives to ensure our safety. Just as he said he would during his campaign, President Trump has taken steps to strengthen our U.S. military and uphold our standing as leaders on the world stage. In his budget proposal, Trump proposed a $54 billion increase to upsurge the size of our military.
He also took a bold stand by carrying out airstrikes on Syria after they used chemical weapons against their civilians, including children. The United States of America should always be willing and able to take decisive military action, and the President has shown we can and will do so when necessary.
These are just some of the significant actions by President Trump in his first 100 days. Of course there is a lot of work still to be done. It took Obama eight years to get us to this point and it's going to take President Trump more than 8 weeks to clean up the mess the previous administration made. I look forward to the days ahead as we continue working to restore our country and provide a better way and better life for the American people.
