Washington, DC - Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-4) today voted in support of H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act, also referred to as the “Farm Bill.” The legislation passed in the House by a vote of 213-211.
“After being held up by political gridlock, the House has finally made good on our promise to help our farmers who have experienced historically low farm income, unstable market prices, and severe natural disasters. Agriculture is our number one industry in Mississippi, from cotton and catfish in the Mississippi Delta to specialty crops and timber here in South Mississippi. This industry is absolutely vital to our state’s economy, adding $16.51 billion dollars to our economy in 2017 alone. This bill also provided much needed reforms to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by strengthening work requirements for individuals who receive benefits."
