Palazzo Congratulates Merchant Marine Academy Nominee
Washington, DC -Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-4) congratulated Pascagoula High School senior Jack Colmer following his appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
"When I had the opportunity to meet Jack at my Academy Day in the fall, I was very impressed with the integrity of this young man. Jack has taken the right steps toward receiving a world-class education at the Merchant Marine Academy and I have no doubts that he will represent the best of Mississippi," Palazzo said. "It's encouraging to meet members of the upcoming generation that you know will be leaders tomorrow. I wish Jack the best of luck in his future endeavors as he takes a major step in his young adult life."
Jack Colmer will graduate from Pascagoula High School in May and will begin attending the United States Merchant Marine Academy in the fall of 2018. He is the son of James and Jennifer Colmer and played football for Pascagoula High School.
Congressman Palazzo hosts an annual Service Academy Day where he is able to connect interested south Mississippi high school students with representatives of the five service academies. United States Service Academy nominees must commit to serve in the military for a minimum of five years following their graduation from the academy.
Students that completed the nomination application submitted their academic resume, letters of recommendation, an official transcript, standardized test results, and an essay on why they want to attend the service academies.
Congressman Palazzo encourages members of the public to follow his social media accounts to monitor announcements regarding events such as Service Academy Day that will take place around south Mississippi.
