WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-4) released the following statement today after introducing a package of conservative legislation for consideration by the House of Representatives:
“In the opening weeks of Congress, it is vitally important that we begin working vigorously towards restoring our nation by passing conservative, common-sense legislation. The three bills I’m introducing today offer real solutions and represent the hallmarks of conservatism: individual freedom, protecting the defenseless, and returning to a citizen legislature.”
“From striking at the core of Obamacare’s individual mandate to protecting the unborn to instituting term limits on Members of Congress, my bills each enjoy broad support across the country because they reaffirm that we are a conservative nation and that we will continue to push back on President Obama and his liberal agenda.
Congressman Palazzo introduced a package of three bills today, the second week of the 114th Congress. His “Right to Refuse Amendment” prohibits Congress from taxing individuals and businesses on a failure to purchase a good or service, such as the individual mandate tax implemented by Obamacare. It has been supported by the American Center for Law and Justice, Americans for Tax Reform, National Taxpayers Union, Center for Individual Freedom, American Commitment and R Street, and enjoys wide support in Congress.
The “Every Child is a Blessing Act” prevents the pursuit of “wrongful birth” lawsuits in which parents claim that had they known a child would have a developmental or physical disability, they would have aborted the pregnancy. The bill has been endorsed by the National Right to Life Committee and Americans United for Life.
The final bill would impose term limits on Members of the House and Senate. Members would be limited to 12 years of service (6 terms in the House or 2 terms in the Senate). Congressman Palazzo has long been a supporter of term limits.
