Washington, DC – Congressman Steven Palazzo, (MS-4) praised today’s announcement of $800 million in funding for the LPD-17 program, intended to fund the 12th ship in the line. The funding level was included in the Senate Department of Defense Fiscal Year 2015 Appropriations bill during a subcommittee markup today.
“For years I have told anyone who would listen about the finest warships in the world built right here in Pascagoula. Today’s announcement marks another milestone in ensuring our men and women in uniform are given the absolute best equipment to complete the missions that we ask of them. I applaud the work of Senator Cochran and his fellow senators, and I know they will continue to ensure the funding is supported in the final version of the bill.”
Congressman Palazzo was a leading advocate for the successful authorization of LPD funding in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which passed the House on May 22, 2014. During posture hearings prior to House passage of the NDAA, Congressman Palazzo spoke directly with Commandant of the Marine Corps James Amos who expressed his support for the ship and verified the need of the Marine Corps.
