BILL CASSIDY: Palazzo helped reform flood insurance
Long before most members of Congress knew that flood insurance reform was needed, Rep. Palazzo, Rep. Grimm and I formed the Home Protection Caucus to work on flood insurance reforms, raise awareness of flawed FEMA practices, and educate our colleagues on these needed reforms.
We joined together to advocate for Mississippians and Louisianans who followed the rules when building their homes after Hurricane Katrina. Many of these hard-working, middle-class Americans are retirees on fixed incomes who spent their lives working along the Gulf Coast as fishermen, shipbuilders, teachers and veterans.
I was proud to work with Rep. Palazzo as we formed the coalition that eventually passed bipartisan, bicameral legislation known as the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act.
I will continue working with Rep. Palazzo to offer solutions that represent the views and voices of our constituents along the Gulf Coast.
